FREE STANDING SIGNATURE
Determine
where you want the holes to be when you add waxed thread for the Free Standing
Signature onto the cover.
Today we
will be using an awl to punch three holes –
The top and bottom holes will be approximately 1/4" to 1/2”
from the top/bottom of the signature.
The middle hole will be 3-3/4” from the top of the cover.
STEP 1:
Using the guide provided, punch the holes in the spine using the awl
using the guide provided (the Cheerios Box template).
STEP 2:
Place the guide provided inside your cover over the spine section. Punch
STEP 3: Thread
your needle with one of the waxed threads provided. Threads should be three times the length of
the journal.
STEP 4: Add
the waxed thread onto the journal.
A) Start
in the middle hole going from the inside of the signature through the journal
cover, up to and through the first
hole from the top.
B) Continue by threading the waxed
thread from the top hole (from the inside) down to and through the third hole.
C) Continue up to and through the middle
hole (from the outside) ending where you started.
D)
Take both ends of the waxed thread and tie a square knot. DO NOT include the long piece of waxed thread
inside the knot. The long thread should
be loose, not snug. This will allow you
to add/remove pages whenever you want. Snip the ends short, but not too short.

THREE-HOLE
PAMPHLET STITCH FOR SEWING IN A SIGNATURE
Determine
where you want the holes to be when you sew the signature onto the cover.
Today we
will be using an awl to punch three holes –
The first and third holes will be approximately 3/4"
from the top/bottom of the signature, or one inch from the top of the journal
cover.
The third hole will be in the middle at approximately 3-3/4”
from the top of the signature or 4” from the top of the journal.
STEP 1:
Using the guide provided, punch the holes in the spine using the
awl.

Place the guide provided inside your signature. The guide is one-half inch longer than the
signature, be sure to leave a quarter inch at the top and at the bottom. Using the awl, punch holes at each of the

your needle with one of the waxed threads provided. Threads should be three times the length of
the journal.
STEP 4: Sew
the signature onto the journal.
A) Start
in the middle hole going from the inside of the signature through the journal
cover, up to and through the first
hole from the top (snugging your thread firmly into place).

the inside) down to and through the third hole (again making sure the thread is
snug).
C) Continue up to and through the middle
hole (from the outside) ending where you started (making sure the thread is
snug.

your needle with one of the waxed threads provided. Threads should be three times the length of
the journal.
